Today's "ARD Story" investigates how large quantities of cheap clothing labeled "Made in Italy" are produced and distributed in Europe. The focus is on the Tuscan textile city of Prato, where a fast-fashion system largely dominated by Chinese companies has developed.
The film follows investigators from the European Public Prosecutor's Office as they work against suspected smuggling, customs fraud, money laundering, and organized crime. Journalists, trade unionists, and environmental activists also have their say.
“Deceptive Labels – China’s Fashion Mafia in Europe” will be broadcast on Wednesday, August 5, from 10:50 p.m. to 11:35 p.m. on ARD and will subsequently be available in the ARD Mediathek.
