Skechers plans to complete construction of its new European distribution center near Liège Airport in August. The approximately 230.000-square-meter facility will serve as the central logistics hub for the shoe manufacturer's European business.
The new location is in close proximity to the existing distribution center in Milmort. This is intended to facilitate the transition for the existing teams. According to the company, automation is not intended to replace the local employees, but rather to help keep operations in Belgium in the long term despite cost pressures.
Installation of the automation systems, developed jointly with intralogistics specialist Knapp, will begin in August. The first phase of the expansion is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028. In the future, all processes from goods receipt to shipping will be integrated into a newly designed logistics system.
