Schuhkay 1882: Eight branches before the end

Insolvent Hamburg shoe chain is facing tough cuts

Eight branches of the shoe retail chain Schuhkay 1882 and the central warehouse in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld are facing closure. The closure plans affect, among others, branches in Hamburg-Altona, Kiel and Neumünster as well as the Tamaris branch in Hamburg-Ottensen.

The insolvent company KG Schuhkay GmbH & Co. KG with 30 branches was taken over by Berlin entrepreneur Steffen Liebich at the end of April. The insolvency proceedings under self-administration were opened in June. In November 2019, Liebich took over the also insolvent Schuhhaus Kay GmbH & Co. KG with 24 branches, which also operates under the name Schuhkay. A final decision on the planned closures has not yet been made. Negotiations are currently ongoing with the landlords regarding more favorable conditions.

In addition to Schuhkay, Steffen Liebich also owns the Leiser, Schuhhof, Anika and Schlatholt shoe chains.
