Closure of specialist shop in Gau-Algesheim

Gau-Algesheim is losing a long-established specialty shop: Weiner shoe store on Langgasse is closing after more than nine decades. The family business cites changing customer buying habits and the growth of online retail as the reasons for the closure.

The business was founded in the early 1930s by Wilhelm and Therese Weiner. After being taken over by their daughter Inge Vierthaler, and later by her daughter Susanne Gerharz, and finally in 2022 by their granddaughter Anna Beutel, the shoe store shaped the cityscape and the supply of local customers for generations.

The clearance sale of remaining stock is currently underway. No decisions have yet been made regarding the future use of the retail space.
