Overall, there was an upturn in online trading in April
While German online retailers were able to significantly make up for the decline in sales recorded in March in April, cumulative sales for March and April for online shoe retail fell by 11,3 percent to 554 million euros. This is shown by a special evaluation by the Federal Association of E-Commerce and Mail Order eV (bevh) based on the consumer survey “Interactive Commerce in Germany”, which was conducted throughout the year. April online sales of shoes rose slightly by 5,4 percent to 357 million euros. Overall, e-commerce with goods in April was 17,9 percent higher than the same month last year and reached a volume of 6,82 billion euros.
In addition to shoes, the “clothing” segment also recorded cumulative sales of 1,75 billion euros in March and April, 8,8 percent below the same period last year. The jewelry/watches range brings up the rear with -40,3 percent.
The fact that April more than compensated for the weak March with a cumulative increase of 2,3 percent is due in particular to the strong growth in the categories of food (+101 percent), medicines (+87,3 percent), and drugstore goods (+55,1 percent). ) and animal supplies (+20,2 percent). However, these ranges in particular were continuously available in stationary stores during the lockdown phase.
