The Breitfeld shoe store in Riedlingen will continue operating. Current employee Tatjana Cernikov is taking over the long-established business from owner Franz Breitfeld and plans to reopen it in the last week of August.
Breitfeld, 73, had been considering retiring from business for some time. About a year ago, he approached Cernikov about a possible successor. The saleswoman, who had been with the company since 2023, decided to become self-employed despite the difficult situation in the retail sector.
During the first three weeks of August, the sales area will be slightly remodeled and the product range expanded to include more modern models. The name Schuhhaus Breitfeld will remain. Both current employees will also be retained. Franz Breitfeld will continue to run the store's repair workshop.
The history of the shoe store dates back to 1779. Since 1860, the business has been run by several generations within the Breitfeld family.
