The insolvent non-food discount retailer Mäc-Geiz is expected to close around 50 of its 183 stores nationwide as part of its restructuring. Which locations will be affected is not yet known. Clarity regarding the future store network is expected by autumn 2026 at the latest.
The Halle District Court opened insolvency proceedings under self-administration on August 1st. The management remains in office, and restructuring expert Lucas Flöther has been appointed as administrator. Seventy-one employees from sales, logistics, administration, and service departments have already lost their jobs. According to the company, Mäc-Geiz currently employs 1.175 people.
Mäc-Geiz filed for insolvency in May 2026. Business operations will continue during the restructuring.
