Questions to Arnd Hinrich Kappe from ILM

We are analogue and shopping is fun

How are you dealing with the current Corona crisis? What developments do you expect?

We are currently preparing very intensively for the upcoming ILM Summer Styles, which is scheduled for September 5th to 7th. To this end, we have adopted a very extensive package of measures, which we are working hard to implement. On the one hand, this includes our internal organization with a sophisticated and easy-to-implement hygiene and admission concept, extended opening hours, an online ticket shop and much more. On the other hand, we have given a lot of thought to what we can do for exhibitors and visitors. For the exhibitors this means: Every exhibitor who operated a stand at the ILM edition in March 2020 will receive a one-off 50 percent discount on the basic rent of their existing space for the next ILM. Every new registration for the upcoming ILM receives a 20 percent discount on the basic rent. This also applies to stand construction: All exhibitors who opt for a basic rental stand will receive a one-off 50 percent discount for the next edition.

Will visitors and buyers also benefit from your package of measures?

Yes, we have also thought about a few things: We are waiving entry fees for the ILM in September 2020; There are also no costs for parking tickets. We will also expand the lecture series and add practical topics and questions. And we are currently negotiating special conditions with hotels and restaurants.

Are you thinking about relocating the upcoming ILM Summer Styles?

Our trade fair date is currently from September 5th to 7th. And I am confident that the trade fair will take place - even under stricter conditions, the implementation of which we can plan and carry out. However, if the situation makes it necessary to postpone the date, we will do so.

Do you think that trade fairs will regain the importance they had before the Corona crisis or are you afraid that retailers might find that they can get by without trade fairs?

Yes, I firmly believe that trade fairs will regain the importance they had before Corona. Analogue interaction is extremely important and should not be underestimated. And if trade fairs manage to take this into account and offer a good atmosphere and interesting supporting programs, then I believe there will be growth. At this point, we have already received numerous registrations from exhibitors at the canceled trade fairs in Berlin. That shows us: trade fairs are needed!
