A quarter more exhibitors at Micam

Italian shoe industry continues to recover in the first half of the year

The next edition of Micam Milano, which will take place between September 18th and 20th at the Fieramilano exhibition center in Rho, will be attended by 1.012 brands, 54 percent of which are from Italy and 46 percent from abroad. Compared to the spring event, this represents an increase of 23 percent. The new additions and prestigious comebacks include Benetton, Cafè Noir, Guy Laroche, Liu Jo, North Sails, Renato Balestra and Steve Madden.

To help shoppers choose the best-selling shoes of the season, Micam has developed a data-driven SS23 trend guide in collaboration with the Livetrend platform: The digital guide is designed to help visitors discover next season's trends and optimize their purchases . It is based on an innovative platform that analyzes millions of images and information from Instagram, e-commerce and fashion shows and translates them using special algorithms for the shoe industry.

The Italian footwear industry continues to recover, recording growth in sales (+14,5%) and domestic consumption (+18,2% in value) in the first half of the year, after an overall growth rate of +18,7 percent in 2021. But it There are a number of unknowns looming on the horizon. “Industry has recovered significantly overall, but high energy costs, raw material costs and the consequences of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine (with a 46 percent decline in the value of exports to the two markets since the start of the war) are threatening short-term growth,” says Giovanna Ceolini, Chairwoman of the manufacturers' association Assocalzaturifici. The member companies are satisfied with sales to North America and the most important EU markets. However, due to the Corna-related closures in the spring, sales to China slowed down. “While designer brands are doing very well, half of our member companies have not yet returned to pre-Covid sales levels,” said Ceolini.
